Updated: Welcome to New York Randy

As a member of the media (My real job is as a reporter so I’m not saying this blog makes me a media member, though that would qualify too. I’m just saying there’s more to me than just this blog.), allow me to welcome Randy Johnson to New York City and tell him what an idiot he was yesterday when he got strong with the camerman. I have now seen the apology. It’s appropriate enough, I guess. But I’ve also read where this kind of behavior isn’t all that uncommon with the BIG UNIT. So he’s used to these apologies.

I’d post some fairly good links, but it’s a bit tough on this computer. If I can wrest control of the home version from my wife tonight I’ll stop trying to do this from work.

Maybe they don’t have cameras in Phoenix or something. Maybe nobody there cared about you when you walked the streets of that city. But you’re in the biggest fishbowl in the world. Furthermore, when you walk on a PUBLIC sidewalk you get to deal with the adoring PUBLIC, which is basically who the cameraman was shooting pictures for. How lovely that New York got a glimpse of your character. You set yourself up for being the most hated man in the city if you suck on the field. They’ll forgive you if you’re good. But that clip of you putting your paw over the camera and telling the cameraman to not talk back to you like you are every New York resident’s daddy is going to haunt you, I hope for a long time. I’m a Seattle-area guy now and from what I hear you didn’t pull that kind of crap here.

If I was walking on a public street in New York City and the cameras were rolling, there wouldn’t be a thing I could do about it. Is it the millions that make you think you can? I was glad for you when you won the World Series in 2001. I always figured you for a class act. I hope yesterday was an anomaly. I hope you are not really a jerk, but if you suck this year that tape is going to roll over and over and over and over and over and over . . .

I really like the M’s chances this year.

I really like that someone NOT trying to sell a gambling or drug site has posted a comment. I, too, like the Mariners chances. It will depend on arms, it seems. If the Angels do as well as I think they will, though, the Mariners will be vying for the wild card spot.

The M’s pitching should be able to relax a little more this year because they will have some bats to get them runs. I’m interested to see how Beltre plays with a big fat paycheck now. I do think the Angels are the team to beat but you never know with those injuries. I hope Colon has put on another 25 lbs.

I think the A’s have no shot this year.

I think the Rangers were a fluke last year. They’ll get tired of Showalter’s act.
