Yeah, I'm worried about any trade with Beane. The guy doesn't get it wrong often and (I'm talking out my butt for this next part) the folks who do trade with him do get it wrong sometimes.

Larry Krueger used the "C"-word because he was referring to the undisciplined caribbean free swingers on the team. It isn't a racist comment if it's true (although I have no idea whether it is).
I used to listen to Krueger on a weekend, late night radio sports show and was impressed by his knowledge of the Major Leagues and the NFL.

I still do not understand why so many baseball writers, etc., keep confusing the concept of "team" when applying that word to baseball. Baseball, on any one pitch or play, is at best a three or four person effort -- and that's only on defense.

On offense, you are on an island as a hitter. There is an idea, a plan of what can or should be done in a situation, but it is always up to the hitter to get these things done. Oh, sure, a base stealer on 1st base may provide a bit of distraction for the pitcher and thus give the tiniest of advantages to the hitter, but it's an individual effort, hitting -- not a team one.

So, with that irrefutably established (with the notable exception of Barry Bonds, who does actually manage to make the hitters around him have a better chance of succeeding), keeping Palmeiro out is silly. Yes, yes, that includes steroid scandal considerations.

The numbers don't lie -- Raffy's done about as much as he can with a bat in his hands. And that should be good enough.

Then again, you have only posted once, but it was important enough for you to take the time. Kind of a double standard, no?

When I heard about the "fine alternative"-- way before congress-- my thoughts were:

a. if Joe Doaks gets called up for an emergency start, tests positive, and never appears in the majors again, he can be fined in lieu of suspension without a protracted argument over which if any steroid policy applies.

And b. If Johnny Damon tests positive but the visitor's water cooler at Yankee stadium is found to be contaminated, MLB won't be trapped into suspending Damon for the final Yankees-Red Sox series of the season...

Flexibility is not necessarily a sign of leniency...

To Miss Fantastick, my reason for asking the question is because baseball lends itself to the kind of romantic vision visible in Field of Dreams, yet in reality is the adult playground evident in Bull Durham. Field of Dreams wasn't really about baseball, it was about dreams for a guy who longed for a relationship with his father and a bitter recluse reluctantly admitting he'd never lost his idealism. Bull Durham is about sex, comedy and actually teaches the uninitiated about the game and how it resembles life. In its own way it's a romantic piece as well. I just think some people love the game for the dynamics of the game itself and perhaps for how it mirrors life (Bull Durham), and others love the game out of romantic longing (Field of Dreams). Some love the game for both reasons.

I'm fine with you rooting for Giambi as long as you're rooting for the rest of the Yankees to fall apart. Bonds looked like a complete idiot yesterday.
